Clara Barbosa is a Brazilian lawyer and human rights advocate with a strong academic and professional background in the intersection between business, compliance, and international law. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in International Human Rights Law at Lund University in Sweden, complementing her specialization in International Law in Brazil. Fluent in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and French, Clara brings a global outlook and cross-cultural sensitivity to her work.

Her professional path has combined legal practice with human rights advocacy, equipping her with a nuanced understanding of how compliance and corporate responsibility frameworks operate across borders. She has gained experience with the Organization of American States and Centurion Legal Group, where she contributed to research, litigation support, and policy analysis in areas such as accountability, international disputes, and human rights protection. In Brazil, she also worked as a legal assistant, advising on corporate and regulatory matters, where she developed a strong foundation in compliance and governance issues.

Alongside her professional roles, Clara has been deeply engaged in volunteer initiatives that connect business and human rights. She collaborated with UNICEF on digital content and awareness strategies, worked with the Brazilian Institute of Law of the Sea on research and outreach, and supported the Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court Competition, gaining firsthand exposure to the challenges of implementing human rights standards in different contexts.

Academically, Clara has explored the dynamics of state and corporate responsibility in her research and participated in specialized training on international criminal law, business and human rights, and compliance. These experiences strengthened her ability to critically assess how private and public actors intersect in shaping rights-based policies and compliance frameworks.

Clara is particularly interested in how compliance mechanisms can serve not just as regulatory tools but as instruments for advancing ethical business practices and safeguarding human rights. She approaches her work with analytical rigor, adaptability, and a strong commitment to bridging the gap between legal standards and practical implementation.
